About

I am a Community Learning & Development Worker in Bonnybridge, Scotland, as well as a full-time research student. In my practice I work with residents on projects that explore and reconsider the present-day landscape of their place through the traces left by history, focusing mainly on industrial decline.

My research is concerned with expanding the understanding of the complexities of civic learning processes involving individuals and social groups living together in the same geographic area through an investigation of the ways in which residents construct forms of public space through interaction with their physical environments in spatial, temporal and relational ways. This is being done through research conducted in city and semi-urban locales in the south west of Scotland.

My research and practice interests include the public sphere and public space theory towards a better understanding of community education as public education. I am involved in how residents explore and discuss derelict and historical spaces of post-industrial communities, and how these spaces transform into public and political sites, and how they reveal and reignite debate about contemporary challenges.
