About
Lydia Plowman is Professor of Education at the University of Stirling, a member of the advisory group for a £12 million research programme on technology-enhanced learning managed by ESRC (Economic & Social Research Council) and EPSRC (Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council). She is Vice Chair of the ESRC’s Grants Assessment Panel for Education, Psychology and Linguistics.
Lydia is an author of 'Growing Up with Technology: Young children learning in a digital world' (2010, published by Routledge) and has been involved in research about young children’s playing and learning with digital media at home and in preschool settings for over a decade. Current research investigates the roles of toys, technology and play in the everyday lives of young children at home. Her initial studies of children’s play and learning with technology in preschool and schools expanded into an interest in toys – both technological and more traditional – and to observation of children’s play and learning with their families in their own homes. She is interested in exploring different ways of enabling young children to be active participants in research, as well as involving family members and education professionals in such a way that we can gain insights into their practices, values and attitudes.
